A Look at Russian Names
The complete Russian name is formed of a __given name__, __patronymic__, and a __family name__, in that order. The given names can each have several different __diminutives__. For example for __Anastasiya__ there is Nastya, Stasya, Tasya, Nastenka, and more. Russian given names are often taken from the names of __saints__, especially those from Eastern Orthodox tradition, which are often of __Greek__ origin. In the last century traditional __Slavic names__ have again come into use. See __European names__. Russian names are normally written in the __Cyrillic alphabet__, the usual alphabet of the __Russian____language__. When they are represented in the __Latin alphabet__ (of English and other western European languages) they are __transcribed__, which can result in multiple spellings for a single name depending on the transcription.
